Latino Health Access uses a participatory, community-driven approach to health education. Curricula are built from lived experiences, using relatable examples to explain complex topics. Promotores are recognized as trusted community experts who address health inequities at their root. Our Basic Promotor Training is grounded in popular education, connecting personal experience to learning. Experienced Promotoras facilitate dialogue, helping trainees apply new information and develop fresh perspectives within their communities.
The Promotor Learning Institute provides comprehensive training and support for Community Health Workers/Promotores and the organizations they serve. All our programs are available in In-Person, Virtual, and Hybrid formats to best suit your needs.
Our foundational program offers 40 hours of theoretical instruction across 12 modules, designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the Promotor model and essential CHW competencies.
Training can be tailored to meet your organization’s specific needs.
Practicum: 40 hours Hands-on practicum hours can be completed directly at your organization as part of their on-the-job training, or through supervised experience with our seasoned Promotoras in our established in-house programs
Core Competencies & Accreditation
At LHA, we believe that promotores’ most important competencies are those they already had before coming to the training. The purpose of the training, then, is to build on people’s own experiences so that they may reflect on, analyze, critique, and increase their understanding of a variety of issues that affect health and well-being. Participants will increase their skills to assist, educate, and inform their community in a way that stimulates creativity, inclusion, participation, commitment, reciprocity, reflection and action.
Intended Audience: Directors, managers, coordinators, supervisors, clinic staff, and institutions currently working with or onboarding Promotores in their teams

“We believe in the vision and way LHA sees the work of promotoras :a dignified way, a respectful way. And we believe that this work deserves this type of training, which is a training that is not something to get through the day, but something deep and that offers them a solid base to do their work that is also culturally appropriate. I recommend it 100%. It has been a joyful, fun, meaningful week. But also very deep. It is not simple training. It is deep because the work of promotoras is deep.”
