Hiromi Minakata
Coordinator of Downtown Family Resource Center
Hiromi has over fifteen years of experience engaging and working hand in hand with the underserved, low-income communities. She joined LHA in 2003 as an intern from Cal State University Fullerton. After she was done with her internships at LHA, she was hired as a Promotora and became a Program Coordinator within a few months. While at LHA she has coordinated and overseen several programs and projects such as the Children’s and Youth Initiative Program-engaging and training children ages 4 to 17 years of age and their parents; the HCA Outreach & Engagement Program which covered all Orange County and which main goal was to reduce Mental Health Stigma; the Community Health Worker’s Initiative Project in partnership with Mission Hospital-working with and training Promotoras in South County; the Zero Abuse project in New York City-training and working with Promotoras from NY on Sexual Child Abuse Prevention, among other projects. She currently serves as the Coordinator for the new Downtown Family Resource Center, which main purpose is the prevention of Child Abuse. Hiromi is a firm believer of teamwork.
Hiromi received a B.S. in Human Services from Cal State University Fullerton. She is also a member of the Raise Foundation’s Blue Ribbon Committee.
Hiromi was born in Los Angeles, California but raised in Michoacán, Mexico. She came back to the United States when she was 16 years old. Hiromi enjoys and has a passion for folkloric dance. She has been dancing Mexican Folkloric Dance since the age of 9. Hiromi and other LHA staff formed the LHA Folkloric Dance Group where Hiromi serves as the dance instructor, the dance group have performed at several of LHA’s community and fundraising events, such as the Stigma Reduction community events and the LHA Tamalada.
